Does Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet clean leather and suede garments?

Yes. Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet accepts leather and suede garments such as jackets, coats, pants, shirts, and skirts for specialty cleaning after an assessment and your consent. This is not ordinary dry cleaning. Review the leather and suede cleaning risk disclosure before you authorize the work.

What are the main leather and suede cleaning risks?

The most common risks are color bleeding or color change, incomplete stain removal, water spotting, finish or gloss changes, suede nap and texture change, shrinkage or shape change, remaining odor, and wear showing at seams, linings, or hardware. Results vary with the hide, dye, finish, and prior treatments. See the summary of key risks.

Can leather or suede dye bleed or change color?

Yes. Leather and suede dyes can bleed, transfer, darken, lighten, or look uneven after cleaning — especially on multi-color garments and pieces with unknown or unstable dyes. Cleaning is not the same as re-dyeing. Read dye and color bleeding risks.

Will stains come out of leather or suede?

Not always. Ink, blood, oil, grease, and dye-transfer stains often will not fully come out and can spread. Water spotting may remain. Heavily soiled garments may improve without becoming spotless. See staining and water spotting risks.

Will suede nap change after cleaning?

It can. Suede nap may flatten, look patchy, or shade differently after cleaning. We brush and even the nap, but worn areas may never match protected panels. Details are in suede nap and texture.

Can leather or suede shrink?

Yes. Leather and suede can shrink, warp, or change shape, especially pants, skirts, unlined jackets, stretch leather, and anything previously wet or heat-dried. We reshape garments as they finish, but a small fit change is possible. See shrinkage and distortion risks.

Why would you decline to clean a leather or suede garment?

We may decline or pause if the hide is crumbling, a test shows unsafe dye or adhesive, the material is bonded or peeling, you need a stain or odor guarantee we cannot give, the garment is structurally unsafe, or you have not given consent. Full criteria: when cleaning may be declined.

How do I authorize leather or suede cleaning?

Open the form, enter your name, mobile, and email, review the sections, then submit. Or call 415-338-9318 / schedule a pickup.

What should I tell you when I drop off a leather or suede garment?

Note the material if you know it, every stain and what caused it, any home or prior professional treatments, odors, fit concerns, and existing damage. Clear photos of stains, hardware, and worn areas help us assess the piece. Use the drop-off checklist.

How much does leather and suede garment cleaning cost?

Specialty leather and suede garment cleaning is priced separately from ordinary dry cleaning. A typical leather or suede jacket starts at the published rate on our pricing page and can be higher for deep cleaning or couture pieces. We confirm the figure after we see the garment.

How long does leather or suede cleaning take?

Longer than regular dry cleaning. Each leather or suede garment is assessed, cleaned, conditioned, and finished individually. Timing is confirmed after we see the piece. Specialty leather and suede work often takes several weeks.

How should I care for leather and suede after cleaning?

Hang the garment on a shaped hanger, air it, keep it out of plastic, and avoid rain, heat, and home stain products. Do not iron or put leather or suede in a dryer. Brush suede with a suede brush only. Full aftercare guidance.
