Heritage & Expertise
Stefano Ricci, Cared For by Alex's Team
Founded in Florence in 1972 by Stefano Ricci and his wife Claudia, the house began with handmade Italian silk ties — debuting at Pitti Uomo in 1974 — and grew into one of the world's most exacting names in completely handmade, 100% Made-in-Italy menswear. Stefano Ricci is celebrated for opulent, hand-tailored suits and sport coats, and even owns the historic Antico Setificio Fiorentino silk mill, weaving since 1786.
That craftsmanship is also its vulnerability: the hand-stitched canvas, full-floating chest construction, and luxurious wools, silks, and cashmeres can be permanently flattened, glazed, or distorted by harsh solvents and machine pressing. Alex's specializes in exactly this caliber of tailoring — cleaning and finishing it by hand so the garment keeps the shape its maker built in.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for Stefano Ricci
Each Stefano Ricci piece is cleaned gently and finished by hand — spot-treated, pressed on the hanger and from the inside out, so its hand-tailored structure and rich Italian fabrics are never compromised.
Full hand-canvassed construction
We hand-press over a tailor's ham and never crush the chest canvas in a machine, so the jacket's floating front keeps the natural roll and drape Stefano Ricci's tailors stitched in by hand.
Hand-rolled lapels and pick-stitching
Lapels are steamed and shaped by hand to preserve their soft roll, and we work carefully around the visible pick-stitching at the edges so none of the hand finishing is flattened or frayed.
Antico Setificio silk and fine wool
The house's own Florentine silks and high-twist wools are cleaned in fresh, gentle solvent and pressed at controlled temperatures to prevent glazing, water-spotting, or sheen loss on the cloth.
Cashmere and silk-blend jacketing
Soft luxury blends are treated to protect loft and hand — no aggressive agitation or over-pressing — so the fabric stays supple rather than going thin and shiny at the elbows and seat.
Functional surgeon's cuffs and horn buttons
We protect working buttonholes and genuine horn buttons during cleaning and pressing, padding around them so the hand-finished cuffs and buttons return exactly as they left the atelier.

Common Questions
Stefano Ricci Garment Care FAQ
How should a Stefano Ricci suit be cleaned without ruining the hand-tailoring?
A Stefano Ricci suit should be dry cleaned sparingly and only by hand-finishing specialists. Because the jacket is built on a hand-stitched floating canvas with hand-rolled lapels, machine pressing can permanently flatten the chest and crush the roll. Alex's spot-treats stains, cleans in gentle solvent, and presses each piece by hand over a tailor's ham to preserve the construction. Between cleanings, brush and steam rather than wash, and always clean the jacket and trousers together so the cloth ages evenly.
Do you pick up and deliver Stefano Ricci garments in San Francisco?
Yes — Alex's is entirely door-to-door across San Francisco and the Bay Area, . We collect your Stefano Ricci suits, sport coats, and trousers from your home or office and return them hand-pressed and ready to wear. Simply text 415-338-9318 to schedule a pickup.
How often should I dry clean a hand-tailored Stefano Ricci jacket?
As little as possible. A hand-tailored Stefano Ricci jacket should only be dry cleaned a few times a year, or when genuinely soiled — frequent cleaning and harsh pressing wear down the canvas, silk, and cashmere and dull the fabric's finish. For most wear, hanging the jacket to rest, brushing it, and light hand-steaming keeps it fresh. Alex's, a family business caring for fine tailoring since 1984, handles the cleaning gently when it is truly needed and finishes everything by hand.
