Our Story
How Alex's Began
Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet started the way the best family businesses do. It began with a problem worth solving, and a willingness to go door to door to solve it.
Alex Najafi launched the business while earning his master's in business at the University of San Francisco. He started it alongside his mother and father. It was a true family endeavor from the very first garment. It remains one to this day.
The turning point came from a classmate. She learned Alex's family ran a cleaning business. She wished there were a truly good cleaning service in the city. Alex offered to take her clothes back to the family facility. He returned them, cleaned and pressed, right to her door in San Francisco.
In the 1980s, this was unheard of. There was no pickup-and-delivery service for dry cleaning — and certainly none that came to your home on a regular schedule. Alex was first in the industry to bring dry cleaning pickup and delivery direct to your door. He began going door to door across the city, offering something no one else did — couture-level garment care, collected from your home and returned to your doorstep.
Word traveled the way it does among people who value quality. One client became a building. One neighborhood became a region. Today, Alex's serves the entire Bay Area, from the Peninsula to Wine Country. The promise is the same one the business was founded on: unparalleled care for clients who put quality above all else.
The business Alex built is now a two-generation family endeavor. His son, Mark, is the company's operations manager. He previously worked as a digital media consultant and fashion photographer, and brings a background in data engineering. Mark moved back from New York City to help carry the family business forward. There he earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia University.
That first-in-the-industry spirit never stopped. Alex's was first in the industry to show behind the curtain with a daily live stream on YouTube at youtube.com/@alexdryclean — and first in the industry to bring a dry cleaning AI concierge, Val, to the website and by phone. Each step further raises the level of bespoke service clients have enjoyed for over 40 years.
More than forty years later, Alex's remains family-run and personally overseen. Every garment is still treated as if it were our own — because the relationships behind them are personal, and always have been.

We built this business one doorstep at a time, on a simple promise: to treat every client as if they were our only one — and every garment as if it were our own.— The Najafi family,
