Pricing and Quality — Frequently Asked Questions

Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet does not compete on cheap prices. These answers extract what that means for San Francisco and Bay Area clients. The full essay is Why We Don't Compete on Price. Garment prices are on alexdryclean.net/pricing.

Why doesn't Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet compete on price?

Because cheap dry cleaning is cheap ingredients, cheap solvent, and cheap labor — and you can smell it on the hanger. Quality solvents, trained hands, maintained machinery, skilled customer service, and reliable drivers all cost money. That is not a markup. It is the product. Read why we don't compete on price.

What am I actually paying for with luxury dry cleaning in San Francisco?

Five things: top-quality ingredients; labor from people who have been with us ten to forty years; continuously distilled virgin solvent and maintained presses; experienced customer-service representatives who can assess couture, leather, and stains; and drivers who are reliable, bondable, and on time. Full garment prices are on our pricing page.

Why do quality ingredients and solvent cost more?

Cheap or recycled ingredients make an inferior product. Pristine solvent means virgin solvent, distilled continuously so your clothes are not used as a filter for the last load. Distillation takes energy. When solvent is not maintained, fatty acids and residue stay in the fabric.

What is the smell people call “dry cleaning smell”?

Dry cleaning has no smell. That odor is bacteria and leftover residue from poorly maintained solvent. A lot of people accept it as normal. It is not. It is someone charging two dollars for a job and giving you ten cents of service.

Why is labor at Alex's expensive?

Our people have been with us ten, twenty, thirty, forty years. They do quality stain removal, quality pressing, and quality cleaning — no one-size-fits-all spotting. They live in Marin County and the Bay Area. To keep them here, we pay them enough to live and support their families. You pay us; we pay them.

Why do drivers matter to the price?

Our drivers are skilled, accident-free, ticket-free, reliable, trustworthy, and bondable. They come to your house or garage, meet your household with respect, follow instructions, and keep timing so garments are back ahead of a flight, meeting, or party. That confidence costs money.

Who is Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet for?

Customers who stay for years because they understand what they are paying for. People who value service, quality, confidence, reliability, and trust — who came because of the reviews, not because they hoped for the cheapest option in town.

Is Alex's the most expensive dry cleaner in the Bay Area?

We are the most expensive dry cleaning and laundry valet service in the San Francisco Bay Area — San Francisco, Marin, the Peninsula, the South Bay, the East Bay, and Wine Country (Napa, Sonoma, St. Helena). The people who rely on us know why: their wardrobe investment is taken care of, and it is safe. See pricing or the full explanation.
