Heritage & Expertise
Chloé, Cared For by Alex's Team
Founded in Paris in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, Chloé pioneered the very idea of luxury prêt-à-porter — beautifully made ready-to-wear as an alternative to stiff haute couture. The house became synonymous with a soft, fluid, romantic femininity, famously shaped by Karl Lagerfeld in the 1960s–70s and later by Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo, and is celebrated for its airy silk crepe de chine, georgette, chiffon, delicate lace, and feather-light ruffled and pleated detailing.
Those very qualities make Chloé unforgiving of careless cleaning. Fluid silk and georgette water-spot, lose their hand, and dull permanently under harsh solvents or aggressive pressing; fine lace snags and ruffles flatten in a commercial machine. Alex's specializes in exactly this kind of delicate, construction-sensitive womenswear — the pieces a conventional cleaner is most likely to ruin.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for Chloé
Every Chloé piece is inspected, hand-pre-treated, cleaned in the gentlest appropriate method, and hand-finished by a specialist who understands how its silk, lace, and ruffles are meant to move.
Fluid silk crepe de chine & georgette
Chloé's signature liquid silks are cleaned in the gentlest solvent appropriate to the garment and hand-finished at controlled temperature, so the fabric keeps its soft drape, sheen, and movement rather than going flat or papery.
Delicate lace & embroidery
We hand-inspect every lace panel and embroidered detail, secure loose threads before cleaning, and protect the work in mesh — so nothing snags, pulls, or distorts in the process.
Ruffles, pleats & tiered detailing
Chloé's romantic ruffles and pleats are hand-pressed and shaped individually rather than steam-crushed, preserving the volume and bohemian softness the design depends on.
Silk georgette gowns & evening wear
Floor-length Chloé gowns are handled flat and on the correct form to prevent stretch at the bias and shoulders, with hems and trains finished so they fall exactly as the atelier intended.
Vegetable-tanned trims & hardware
Leather ties, buckles, and the house's signature hardware are masked and conditioned as needed so they don't dry, stain the fabric, or oxidize during cleaning.

Common Questions
Chloé Garment Care FAQ
How does Alex's clean a Chloé silk dress without water-spotting or dulling it?
We never run Chloé silk through a standard commercial cycle. Each crepe de chine, georgette, or chiffon piece is inspected and spot-tested, pre-treated by hand, cleaned in the gentlest method appropriate to that exact garment, and hand-finished at a controlled temperature. This protects the silk's sheen and fluid drape and avoids the water-spotting, dulling, and stiffening that ruin Chloé fabrics at conventional cleaners.
Can Alex's pick up and deliver my Chloé pieces in San Francisco?
Yes. Alex's is a door-to-door dry cleaning valet — We collect your Chloé dresses and gowns from your home anywhere in San Francisco and across the Bay Area and return them hand-finished and ready to wear. Simply text 415-338-9318 to schedule a pickup at a time that suits you.
How should I store a Chloé gown or ruffled dress between wears?
Hang structured Chloé pieces on a padded hanger and store bias-cut or heavily ruffled gowns flat or folded with acid-free tissue to protect the drape and detailing, in a breathable garment bag away from direct light. Avoid plastic, which traps moisture and can yellow silk. We return your Chloé pieces finished and protected, and we're glad to advise on storing seasonal evening wear and gowns you wear only occasionally.
