Heritage & Expertise
Homme Plissé Issey Miyake, Cared For by Alex's Team
Issey Miyake built his house in Tokyo on the idea that a single piece of cloth could become architecture. Homme Plissé Issey Miyake, the menswear line launched in 2013, carries forward the garment-pleating technique the house perfected in the late 1980s: each piece is cut and sewn several sizes oversized, sandwiched between sheets of paper, and fed through heat presses that lock permanent, knife-sharp pleats into the polyester jersey. The result is tailoring that moves, packs flat, and never needs ironing.
That permanence is also its fragility. The pleats are held by heat memory in the fibers, and a standard dry cleaner's hot press, an aggressive steamer, or a tumble-press will flatten or melt them — damage that cannot be reset. Alex's specializes in exactly this kind of pleat-critical garment, handling each piece so the geometry Miyake engineered survives the clean.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for Homme Plissé Issey Miyake
We clean each Homme Plissé piece by hand in cool, gentle conditions and dry it flat in its folded form, never applying the hot pressing or steaming that would collapse its heat-set pleats.
Heat-set permanent pleats
We never press or steam over the pleats. Each garment is cleaned cool, laid in its natural folded geometry, and dried flat so the knife-sharp creases Miyake heat-locked into the fiber stay exactly as designed.
Polyester jersey base
The signature fabric is thermoplastic — it remembers heat. We keep every stage well below the temperatures that would soften or flatten it, so the cloth's structure and stretch are preserved.
Oversized, sewn-then-pleated cut
Because these pieces are constructed large and pleated after sewing, they have no conventional tailored shape to press into. We handle them by their fold lines, not a board, respecting how the garment was actually built.
Quick-dry, wrinkle-proof finish
We let the fabric's own properties do the work — gentle cleaning and flat, shade drying rather than forced heat — so it returns lightweight, springy, and ready to wear with its drape intact.
Accordion and pleat-along trousers
Pleated trousers are folded and rolled along their existing pleat channels for cleaning and transport, never hung in a way that drags the pleats out of register.

Common Questions
Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Garment Care FAQ
Can Homme Plissé Issey Miyake be dry cleaned, or will it ruin the pleats?
It can be cared for safely, but only by someone who understands the construction. The danger isn't solvent — it's heat and pressing. A conventional dry cleaner's hot press, steam tunnel, or tumble-press will flatten or melt the heat-set pleats permanently, because they're held by the polyester's heat memory rather than by stitching. Alex's cleans each piece cool and by hand, then dries it flat in its folded form, so the pleats return exactly as Miyake engineered them.
How do you keep the pleats sharp during cleaning and delivery?
We treat the fold lines as the garment's structure. Each piece is cleaned gently at low temperature, dried flat in the shade rather than under heat, and folded or rolled along its own pleat channels for transport — never hung or pressed in a way that pulls the pleats out of alignment. The accordion geometry stays in register from pickup to return.
