La DoubleJ, Cared For by Alex's Team

La DoubleJ was founded in Milan in 2015 by Los Angeles-born, Italy-based JJ Martin, beginning as a shoppable magazine and vintage edit before blossoming into full collections. The house is celebrated for its maximalist prints and mood-lifting color, with its silks drawn from the historic Mantero archive and printed and crafted entirely in Italy, much of it along the shores of Lake Como.

Those vivid, digitally and screen-printed silks are exactly what careless cleaning ruins: aggressive solvents and high heat can flatten the dyes, bleed adjacent colors, and leave watermarks on delicate crepe de chine and twill — damage that cannot be reversed. Alex's specializes in precisely this kind of saturated, print-forward silk, where the whole value of the garment lives in the color.

How Alex's Cares for La DoubleJ

Every La DoubleJ piece is inspected, hand-treated, and cleaned with gentle, color-safe methods chosen specifically to preserve its silk and its prints.

Mantero archive silks

La DoubleJ's silk crepe de chine and twill come from one of Lake Como's great archives; we clean them in gentle, color-safe solvent at controlled temperatures so the hand and drape of the silk stay intact.

Saturated maximalist prints

The bold, multi-color prints are the soul of the piece. We pre-test for dye stability and clean each garment individually to prevent the color bleed and fading that ordinary cleaning causes.

Evening-gown construction

Gowns and dresses with linings, structured bodices, and full skirts are blocked and steamed by hand so the silhouette and length hang exactly as designed — never pressed flat into the print.

Delicate trims and fastenings

Covered buttons, ruffles, tie details, and concealed zips are protected and hand-finished individually rather than run through machine pressing that crushes or snags them.

Final hand-finish

Each garment is steam-finished and inspected against light before it returns to you, so the print reads crisp and the silk shows no watermarks, shine, or pressing lines.

Why La DoubleJ Deserves a Specialist

Silk is damaged by water itself — not just stains. Even a droplet leaves permanent mineral deposits that dull the sheen, which is why fine silk requires professional cleaning, not home treatment.

Alex's Team handles garments from over 30 luxury brands — Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Kiton, Hermès, Charvet, and Tom Ford among them.

Residents of the Four Seasons Residences, St. Regis Residences, and Millennium Tower in San Francisco trust Alex's for their garment care.

La DoubleJ Garment Care FAQ

How should La DoubleJ printed silk dresses be cleaned?

La DoubleJ's signature silk crepe de chine and twill should be professionally cleaned by hand with a gentle, color-safe solvent at controlled temperature — never washed at home or cleaned with harsh chemicals or high heat, which flatten the saturated prints, cause dye bleed, and leave permanent watermarks. Alex's pre-tests each garment for dye stability and cleans it individually to protect both the silk and its color.

Can you remove a stain from a La DoubleJ gown without fading the print?

Yes. Because the bold color is the most valuable part of any La DoubleJ piece, we treat stains by hand with targeted, color-safe spotting agents and test on the dye first, so we lift the stain without lightening or bleeding the surrounding print. Wine, makeup, and perspiration on silk evening wear are best brought to us quickly and untouched — home remedies usually set the stain or strip the dye.

Do you pick up La DoubleJ pieces in San Francisco?
