Heritage & Expertise
Kearsley, Cared For by Alex's Team
Kearsley was founded in 2001 by Heather Kearsley and her mother, drawing on more than 450 years of family heritage in England's weaving and woolen trades — ancestors who owned textile mills in Yorkshire and Lancashire. Today Kearsley's linens are woven by master artisans in Italy, Belgium, and Scotland and sewn in small batches in Lombardy, Italy and Sonoma, California, from the world's finest natural fibers: Giza 87 Egyptian cotton, Belgian linen, silk, and Mongolian cashmere.
Because these are natural-fiber, small-batch pieces — long-staple cotton sateen, pure linen, and cashmere throws — they are easily ruined by harsh detergents, hot water, and aggressive pressing that flatten the hand, dull the weave, and shrink or pill the fibers. Alex's specializes in exactly this kind of natural-fiber linen care.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for Kearsley
We sort every Kearsley piece by fiber and weave, clean it gently in fiber-appropriate water and detergents, and hand-finish and press it so the linen returns crisp, soft, and true to its original hand.
Giza 87 Egyptian cotton
Kearsley's long-staple Giza 87 sheeting and shams are washed gently and pressed by hand so the sateen stays lustrous and the weave keeps its silken hand rather than going stiff or dull.
Belgian linen
We launder Kearsley's pure Belgian linen duvet covers and table linens at controlled temperatures to protect the natural slubs and prevent the shrinkage and harsh creasing that hot, aggressive cleaning causes.
Mongolian cashmere throws
Kearsley's cashmere throws are cleaned by hand-finished, low-agitation methods that guard the loft and softness of the fiber and prevent the felting and pilling that ordinary laundering inflicts.
Silk throws and accents
Silk pieces are cleaned with pH-balanced, fiber-safe processes that hold the natural sheen and drape without water spotting, dye bleed, or fiber weakening.
Small-batch artisan sewing
Because each Kearsley piece is sewn in small batches in Italy and Sonoma, we inspect seams, hems, and any embroidery individually and finish to protect that handwork — no mass-line pressing.

Common Questions
Kearsley Garment Care FAQ
Can you clean my Kearsley bed linens with door-to-door pickup in San Francisco?
Yes. Alex's Dry Cleaning Valet has served San Francisco and the Bay Area since 1984 with door-to-door pickup and delivery — there is no need to leave home. We collect your Kearsley sheeting, duvet covers, table linens, and throws, clean and hand-finish each by fiber, and return them to your door. Simply text 415-338-9318 to schedule a pickup.
How should Kearsley Belgian linen and Giza 87 cotton be cleaned so they aren't damaged?
Kearsley's pure Belgian linen and long-staple Giza 87 cotton must be cleaned in controlled, fiber-appropriate water with gentle detergents — never hot water or harsh chemicals, which shrink linen, harden the weave, and dull cotton's sateen luster. We launder each by its fiber and hand-press them so linen returns crisp and cotton returns soft and lustrous, exactly as woven.
Will dry cleaning ruin my Kearsley cashmere or silk throw?
Not when it is done correctly. Kearsley's Mongolian cashmere and silk throws need low-agitation, fiber-safe handling — ordinary laundering felts and pills cashmere and water-spots or weakens silk. We clean these throws by hand-finished, pH-balanced methods that protect the loft, softness, and sheen, so the throw keeps its original hand and drape.
