Heritage & Expertise
La Maille Sézane, Cared For by Alex's Team
Sézane was founded in 2013 by Morgane Sézalory in Paris, born online as France's first digitally native fashion house and quickly beloved for its refined, French-girl take on everyday wardrobe staples. La Maille is its celebrated knitwear line — the famous "sweater bar" of cashmere, super kid mohair, alpaca, and merino-and-organic-cotton blends, finished with signature touches like mother-of-pearl buttons and delicate embroidery on cardigans such as the Gaspard, Drew, and Emile.
These natural animal fibers are also the easiest to ruin: too-warm water, an ordinary detergent, agitation, or a hot dryer will felt the knit irreversibly, matting the surface and shrinking the garment beyond recovery. Sézane's own care guidance calls for cold hand-washing and no fabric softener for exactly this reason — and that careful, fiber-specific handling is precisely what Alex's specializes in.
Specialist Care
How Alex's Cares for La Maille Sézane
Every La Maille Sézane knit is cleaned gently by hand in cool water, never agitated or heat-dried, then reshaped and dried flat so it returns with its original loft, drape, and softness intact.
Cashmere and merino knits
We hand-clean La Maille cashmere and merino sweaters in cool water with a pH-balanced wool-safe wash, never the heat or agitation that felts and shrinks fine knits, then dry them flat to hold their shape.
Super kid mohair and alpaca
The airy, brushed surface of La Maille mohair and alpaca knits — pieces like the Gaspard and Emile cardigans — is treated with extra care: no wringing, no tumbling, so the fibers stay lofted and the halo finish is never matted or flattened.
Mother-of-pearl buttons
We protect the natural shell buttons on Sézane cardigans during cleaning and pressing, so these delicate signature fastenings never crack, dull, or discolor.
Embroidery and fine detailing
Eyelet and ivy embroidery and other hand-finished details on La Maille knits are inspected and hand-worked around, keeping the stitching crisp and the threads from snagging or pulling.
Shape and drape
Rather than hanging knits, we block and dry each piece flat to its true measurements, preventing the stretched shoulders and droopy hems that ruin a fine sweater's silhouette.

Common Questions
La Maille Sézane Garment Care FAQ
Can my Sézane cashmere or mohair sweater be dry cleaned safely?
Yes — but it must be handled as the delicate natural fiber it is. La Maille cashmere, super kid mohair, alpaca, and merino knits felt and shrink permanently if exposed to heat or agitation, so Alex's cleans them gently by hand in cool water with a wool-safe wash, never wrings or tumble-dries them, and reshapes and dries each piece flat to preserve its softness, loft, and original measurements.
Do you pick up and deliver La Maille Sézane knitwear in San Francisco?
Yes. Alex's is a door-to-door dry cleaning valet — we collect your Sézane sweaters and cardigans from your home anywhere in San Francisco and across the Bay Area, care for them by hand, and deliver them back to you. Simply text 415-338-9318 to schedule a pickup.
My Sézane sweater pilled and lost its shape after a previous cleaning — can it be restored?
Often, yes. Light pilling on cashmere and merino can be carefully de-pilled by hand, and a knit that was stretched from hanging or hot washing can frequently be re-blocked and dried flat back toward its true shape. Bring it to us and we'll assess it honestly — and going forward, our cool-water, flat-dry handling prevents the felting, shrinking, and stretching that caused the damage in the first place.
